Aurora Park: A New Beginning Shaped Through Collective Commitment

by Flora Sotiriou
The devastating 2025 summer wildfires transformed the once vibrant community of Souni-Zanatzia into a landscape marked by loss. Daily routines were disrupted, beloved spaces were destroyed and the community’s sense of calm was deeply shaken. It quickly became evident that real recovery required more than immediate relief efforts, it demanded the restoration of places that carried emotional significance for local families and supported their everyday wellbeing.
At Enalian Consulting, we committed ourselves to supporting both the immediate and long-term recovery of the affected communities through a series of coordinated actions. In the aftermath of the fires, we provided free legal assistance to all impacted communities, guiding them through insurance claims, government fire-relief applications and any other legal or administrative challenges they faced while rebuilding their lives. In parallel, we offered financial support for the purchase of emergency equipment, helping the community regain stability and extended private donations to families most in need.
Looking toward long-term recovery, our goal was to give back a space of joy, belonging and togetherness, a place where families could create new memories despite the ashes of what was lost. In close collaboration with the Municipality of Souni-Zanatzia and our partners at the Kateryna Biloruska Foundation, we decided to adopt and fully restore a local park. From the outset, the intention was clear: to create an elevated, welcoming environment for the people who had cherished it long before the fire, while opening it up for new visitors to enjoy and make their own.
The project preparation spanned more than two months, from August to November, involving detailed planning, consultation and teamwork at every stage. The park needed to regain its identity in a way that respected the natural environment, the surrounding neighbourhood and the community’s needs, while integrating the upgrades essential for safety, functionality and long-term resilience. Burned trees and debris were cleared, levelling works were carried out and more than 400 trees and bushes were planted to restore the natural landscape. With the greenery in place, a brand-new playground was installed and complemented by new benches and picnic tables. To ensure the park would truly belong to everyone, accessible play equipment and seating were added to make the space fully inclusive.
Today, Aurora Park stands as a renewed symbol of purpose and regeneration. The lower section has been reimagined as a vital green space that promises long-term environmental recovery while reclaiming its role as a gathering place for families. The upper section has been transformed into an expanded playground welcoming children of all ages, combining restored equipment with new installations designed according to modern safety standards. Redesigned seating areas and utilities ensure that the space now supports daily use comfortably and sustainably. The dedication of MMV Progress Ltd and the steadfast support of the Municipality were instrumental in bringing this initiative to life. Across the park new trees, including Cypriot cypresses, pine trees and rosemaries, now breathe new life into the landscape and embody a deep sense of hope.
The park’s inauguration on November 8th marked a true moment of celebration for the community. Families walked together through spaces once covered in ash. Children explored the playground with curiosity and excitement. Five creative activity stations invited them to paint, draw and craft that brought colour, energy and joy back into the environment. Families gathered around the activities in an atmosphere filled with warmth and connection, enhanced by community gathering. A symbolic planting of fifteen young trees captured the spirit of renewal that defines this project. Throughout the day, Aurora Park felt alive once more ready to return to its central role in community life.
Aurora Park now carries a powerful story of renewal. Its restoration honours what was lost while opening a new chapter for future generations. Reborn with care, collaboration and hope, the park stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the community and a promise that life, hope and togetherness will always rise again.
